The Thanksgiving holiday is a bit of a mystery to those outside the US. Is it really about giving thanks? About making peace with Native Americans?  Or is it about gorging on a huge meal and watching The Dallas Cowboys football game? Though it is kind of about all of the above, these days it really is about being with family and, yes, being thankful for how fortunate we are in life. In fact, more than 43 million Americans travel 50 miles or more to celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones and to share a meal that most certainly ends with pumpkin pie.

A match made in heaven, The BBQ Collective’s residency at The Hop, Sheffield opened to the public on Friday 14 August 2015.

The unique partnership combines The Hop’s great beers and live music, which it has made its name for, with an unrivalled flavour of American BBQ, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

The BBQ Collective, an American chef-led BBQ concept, is the result of a life-long passion for all things smoked from Executive Chef and co-founder, Jeffrey Wright. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jeffrey’s love for American BBQ began at age just 14, when he started developing his culinary skills working in the kitchens of his hometown. Many years and a successful career in banking technology later, Jeffrey took the step to swap the financial markets for the BBQ pit, teaming up with his wife Mathurot to bring his dream to fruition.

When The BBQ Collective decided to partner with Ossett Brewery and launch our residency at The Hop in Sheffield, the first call I made was to our old buddy Marc Glosserman, founder of Hill Country Barbecue in New York City (NYC). When I first met Marc in 2002, he was already dreaming up his plans to open NYC’s first real Texas BBQ market, and, like Texas itself, he thought BIG: a 10,000 square foot homage to the food of his motherland: beef brisket, pork ribs, spicy sausages and homemade pies.

The BBQ Collective @ The Hop, Sheffield

We are excited to announce our recent relocation to Sheffield to take up a permanent residency at The Hop Sheffield, in collaboration with Ossett Brewery. Expect more of our famous ribs, smoked chicken and sausages along with other southern classics.

Following our success at the Long Division Festival serving our nine hours smoked pulled pork sandwiches (or "sarnies" as they call them up north) and eight hours smoked beef chili for our Texas chili dog at The Hop Wakefield, we will be doing a small teaser taster event at The Hop Sheffield this Saturday 20 June from 4pm until we sell out.
